MARCHING BAND
The Moran Marching Band consists of the 7th and 8th grade band members and select drummers, volunteer banner holders and color guard. Our first performance is Saturday, September 23rd, performing the National Anthem in the opening ceremony for the Sheehan Marching Band Competition.
Students are to arrive at the back of Sheehan in full band uniform including marching shoes, hats and gloves. Meeting time is 4:00 p.m. The competition is very rigidly timed so it is essential that the entire band is formed early behind Sheehan for some final practice time and to be ready to march down to the field for a 5:00 p.m. performance. The band will march onto the field and perform the Star Spangled Banner. The band will then march off of the field and their requirement will be concluded by 5:20 p.m. Students are strongly encouraged to stay and watch the amazing performances by many local and traveling high school marching bands. Two students will be asked to stay in uniform to accept the appreciation plaque from Sheehan at the end of the competition (usually around 9:oo p.m.)
Memorial Day Parade:
Students are to arrive at Moran Middle School in full band uniform including marching shoes at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, May 28th. Hats will be distributed once all students have arrived. We are not wearing gloves this year.
Students will be bused to and from the parade route. Per Board of Education policy, all students cannot be picked up at the end of the parade route. They must return to Moran on the bus.
The parade gathers at Dutton Park. At 9:00 a.m. there is a ceremony on the green. The parade will begin at the conclusion of the ceremony, between 9:40 and 10:00 a.m. This year the parade route is slightly different. We will march down Main Street and instead of taking a left at the Post Office, we will continue straight and end near Town Hall. At the end of the parade route we will march right onto our buses and return to Moran.
We will return to Moran at approximately 11:00 a.m. Students will return their hats but take the rest of their uniforms home to wash and return later that week. Care for uniforms can be found here: Moran Marching Uniforms
